← Client SupportUOB Kay Hian · I fill in the forms
If you would rather not do the form yourself

Let me open
the account for you

The online form asks a lot of questions. If you do not want to sit through it, you do not have to. Send me the items on this page and I will fill in every form for you.

There are only two things left on your side after that: one short form, and one signature on your phone.

How it works

Six steps, and four of them are mine.

1 · You sendYour documents and a few details.
2 · You pay onceRM9.72, from your own bank account.
3 · I fill inEvery form, using your documents.
4 · I may askOne or two small things I cannot read off a document.
5 · You signOnce, on your phone. About a minute.
6 · UOB emails youWith your account and login details.

What I needNotes
Mobile numberYour own, not a family member’s.
Email addressUOB sends your login details here.
Mailing addressSame as your IC address? Yes or no. If no, give the address.
Marital statusSingle, married, divorced or widowed.
Number of childrenA number is enough.
Years of employmentHow long you have been working.
Annual incomeA range is fine.
Income tax numberYour LHDN number. Usually starts with SG, OG or IG.
Spouse contact numberIf married. A home number is preferred.
Next of kinOnly if it is not your spouse: name, relationship, contact number.

Everything else I take from the documents in section II, so you do not need to type your name, IC number, address or bank details. No income tax number? Download the consent form, get the person who supports you to sign it, and send it back with the rest.

The income provider consent form

Only if someone else supports you financially.

For students, retirees and homemakers. The person who supports you signs it, and you send it back with their IC and their employment details.

Documents to send me

Photo or PDF is fine. Ticks are saved on this device, so you can come back to this page later.

Everyone sends these
Only if it applies to you

Send the whole page, every time

Do not crop anything off

Your name, the bank logo, the statement month, the account number and the address all have to be visible. A blurry or cut-off copy gets rejected, and you have to redo a step you thought was finished.

Not a photo of a screen

Photograph the document itself, or send the original PDF. A picture of a laptop screen reflects light and usually comes back rejected.

III

Pay RM9.72 once

This is the CDS account opening fee, paid to UOB Kay Hian. One-off, and it is not a commission to me.

FieldWhat to enter
PayeeUOB Kay Hian Securities (M) Sdn Bhd
BankMaybank
Bank account number514011380699
AmountRM 9.72
RemarksYour name as per IC

Pay from your own account. It must be the same bank account as the statements you send me. Not a spouse’s account, not another bank. This is the mistake that delays applications most often.

IV

The one form you fill in — W-8BEN

This form tells the US tax office that you are taxed in Malaysia. Without it, US dividends are taxed at the higher American rate.

Fill in only these five linesWhat to write
Line 1Your name, exactly as on your IC.
Line 2Country of citizenship — Malaysia.
Line 3Permanent residence address. No PO Box.
Line 6bYour Malaysian income tax number.
Line 8Date of birth, in MM-DD-YYYY order.

Sign it, but leave the date blank. Leave every other part of the form empty. Sign at the bottom and do not write the date — the date has to match the day we submit, so I fill that in then. A dated form can expire before it reaches UOB.

Five lines and a signature. If any line is unclear, ask me before you write in it — please do not guess on a tax form.

V

Your signature, at the end

Once all the forms are filled in and checked, I send you one link. You sign on your phone with your finger. It takes about a minute.

Keep the whole signature inside the box

Anything drawn outside the box gets cut off, and the signature is rejected. Take your time, and start well inside the edges.

Sign the way you sign at the bank

Use your normal signature, not a neater version of it. Tell me once you have submitted, and I send everything to UOB.

Questions people usually ask

Why do you need my spouse’s IC?

The form asks for their full name and IC number. Reading it off the IC is faster than typing, and one wrong letter can get the whole application rejected.

Why do you need my income?

The broker has to check that the account suits your situation before they approve it. A range is enough, and it does not limit what you can trade.

Is it safe to send my IC on WhatsApp?

The chat is encrypted, and your documents go only to UOB Kay Hian for this account. If you would rather not, we can use email or go through it on a call.

Why so many documents?

None of it is for me. Every licensed broker in Malaysia must collect it under Bursa Malaysia and Securities Commission rules and the anti-money-laundering law. I ask for it in one go so you are not sent a pile of paperwork.

How long does it take?

Most of the wait is on your side, gathering the documents. Once I have everything, the forms and signature are usually done within a day or two.

I already have a UOB account

Then you do not need any of this. One short form moves your existing account across — see the client transfer guide.

Every screen of the portal, in order, with the exact settings for each part. Twenty to thirty minutes when your documents are ready. It opens the same account.
